Security Clearance Law is a specialized field that ensures individuals have the necessary clearance to access sensitive national security information. Rooted in federal regulations such as Security Executive Agent Directive 4 (SEAD 4), Department of Defense (DoD) Directive 5220.6, DoD Manual 5200.02, Executive Order (E.O.) 10865, and E.O. 12968, this practice area governs the process of granting, denying, or revoking security clearances for government employees, contractors, and military personnel. Our experienced NSA Security Clearance Lawyers and DoD Security Clearance Lawyers are ready to serve you in any government agency.
At Honor Law Firm, our Virginia Security Clearance attorneys are trained experts in this area of the law and have been practicing in this field for over 10 years, securing access for, and maintaining access for our clients around the country, but especially in Fort Meade, MD, Arlington, VA, and Washington, DC. We represent Military Members, Government Civilian Employees, and Government Contractors in front of multiple federal agencies, including but not limited to the National Security Agency (NSA), the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the Department of Defense - Defense Office of Hearings and Appeals (DOHA), the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency - Adjudication and Vetting Services (DCSA AVS, formerly known as DCSA CAS and DoD CAF), The Department of Energy Office of Hearings and Appeals (DOE OHA), the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and more.
We understand the complexities of the security clearance suitability criteria, including the thirteen Adjudicative Guidelines and the Whole Person Concept:
The Whole Person Concept: The Whole Person Concept requires the adjudicators to consider more than just the alleged facts, conduct, or misconduct, and instead consider the individual as a whole, making a determination on their trustworthiness unique. It requires an analysis of all available, reliable information about the person, past and present, favorable and unfavorable and should examine a sufficient period of time to make an affirmative determination that the individual is an acceptable security risk.

Appealing Security Clearance Denials and Revocations
Individuals will receive documents that begin the Due Process phase of security clearance adjudications, such as a Statement of Reasons (SOR), Summary of Security Concerns (SSC), Clearance Decision Statement (CDS), Revocation Decision Statement (RDS), or other aptly titled document that indicates your request for a security clearance is being denied or that your security clearance is being revoked, and it provides the reasons therein. This begins a tight timeline that you have to respond to the action and begin your appeal of the government's decision.
Having an experienced attorney to assist you in these matters is extremely important. Most notably, nearly every government agency prescribes different timelines, rules, and procedures to respond to these actions. Some have hearings and some do not. Some have second level appeals and some do not. It is important to put your best case forward, and an experience Virginia Security Clearance Lawer can assist with that.
